WEEK FIFTEEN @ INDIANAPOLIS COLTS L 27-17

TWAS THE WEEK BEFORE CHRISTMAS
THE PATS WENT TO INDY
AND I PENNED THIS MACDOWN
ESPECIALLY FOR CINDY

I HAD A BAD FEELING
MOMENTUM WOULD STALL
COMING OUT OF THE BYE
AND WE MIGHT HIT THE WALL

PLUS WITH INDY JACKED UP
AND THE CROWD'S THUND'ROUS NOISE
IT JUST DIDN'T LOOK GOOD
FOR MACJONES AND THE BOYS

THERE WERE TERRIBLE PLAYS
THERE WAS MORE THAN ONE GAFFE
AND THINGS FELT PRETTY BLEAK
WHEN WE ENDED THE HALF

SURE OUR ROOKIE QB
AND THE D HAD SOME STUMBLES
WITH A COUPLE OF PICKS,
BROKEN TACKLES, AND FUMBLES

BUT MAC ALSO HAD TOUCHDOWNS
IN FACT, THERE WERE TWO!
PLUS TWO HUNDRED AND NINETY NINE YARDS
THAT HE THREW

AND THEN  IN THE FOURTH QUARTER
POSSIBILITY FLASHED!
BUT WITH ONE TAYLOR TOUCHDOWN
OUR COMEBACK WAS DASHED

THOUGH OUR PATRIOTS LOST
AND IT WASN'T THEIR NIGHT,
I'M NOT ALL THAT UPSET
'CAUSE THEY PUT UP A FIGHT

AND THE MACDOWN THIS WEEK
GOES TO DEVIN MCCOURTY
FOR A COLLINS-TIPPED PICK
HE PULLED DOWN NEAR THE FORTY

THINK YOUR PATRIOTS THOUGHTS
WE DO BETTER NEXT WEEK
AND DEFEATING THE BILLS
STARTS A NEW WINNING STREAK

AS FOR MAC AND THE TEAM
WHAT A GIFT OF A SEASON!
SO ENJOY WHAT COMES NEXT
AND THANK BILL AS THE REASON

IF WE WIN OR WE LOSE
IT'S BEEN SUCH A FUN RIDE
AND WE'RE LUCKY AGAIN
TO FEEL PATRIOTS PRIDE!

SO, GO PATS! GO MACJONES!
WHAT AN AWESOME BEGINNING
WAY TO PICK UP THE TORCH
AND CONTINUE THE WINNING

SIGNING OFF, NOW, LOVE DAV,
SENDING JOY AND GOOD CHEER
MERRY CHRISTMAS, MY FRIENDS,
AND A HAPPY NEW YEAR!

WEEK NINE @ CAROLINA PANTHERS W 24-6

well kids-

we've got ourselves a football team! after a bumpy start, our patriots have won three in a row, and for the most part, they've looked a little better doing it every week. it's been super fun to watch, so rest assured that my missed macdowns have been due to new job (and subsequent promotion!) busyness and not a lack of interest or attention on my part.

that macjones sure is somethin' else, and i'm a little sad that this is the game i have time to tell you about, because it wasn't his best. our intrepid quarterback went just 12 for 18 and 139 yards, with one touchdown, one interception, and one apparently controversial strip sack that really just seems like sour grapes. nevertheless, while it wasn't a shiny happy performance from our shiny happy rookie, i still feel fairly confident that he has everything firmly in hand.

it's been pretty exciting to see our team start to come together over the last month or so, and while we're not playing perfectly, everyone's stepping up and falling into sync. our defense particularly has been playing the way everyone expected them to play before the season started, so it's nice they decided to show up and give our young offense a little time to gel. this week, they even gave our young offense an assist, with jc jackson returning one of his two interceptions on poor sam darnold for a touchdown - and earning this week's macdown in the process. congratulations on being the patriots' number one receiver in week nine, jc!

we play the browns at home next sunday, and while for some reason i thought they were really good this season, they have the same record that we do - which i think means that maybe we're better than i think we are! i actually think it just means i was confused about the browns, but think your happy patriots thoughts that next week we have a better record than they do, and i'll reconsider.

have a great week, and go pats!

WEEK FIVE @ HOUSTON TEXANS W 25-22

well kids,

after losing at home to tampa bay in the biggest moral victory that ever happened (and secured us the one-seed in the moral victory playoffs), it seemed like our patriots were ready to drop two losses in a row against the texans. then, without warning, our defense awakened and macjones sprang into action, mounting a fourth quarter comeback that i'm officially declaring the start of a legend-in-the-making!!! or least a real victory, which beats a moral victory every time.

macjones has been playing his little heart out, and this week he went 23 of 30 for 231 yards and a touchdown - along with one interception. if only the rest of our rookies looked this good! it's a promising start, and while i'm not going to get all dramatic about it, macjones is definitely a legend-in-the-making!!! or at least a pretty impressive rookie so far.

nick folk almost earned this week's macdown after nailing four field goals - including the game winner with 17 seconds to spare, but his missed extra point was partly the reason we needed that last-second field goal to begin with, so he only gets honorable mention. instead, this week's award is going to matt judon. not only did this patriot newbie sack the texans' quarterback twice, but he also sacked the bucs' quarterback last week, for which i would like to buy him a beer! in fact, this is his fourth consecutive game with a sack, which is good enough to earn my made up award. welcome to the patriots, matt - sack it to 'em!

we play the cowboys on sunday, and to be honest, i have absolutely no idea if they're good or not this year. think your happy patriots thoughts that no matter how good they are, we're better - 'cause i think it's safe to say there are no moral victories to be had when it comes to texas...

have a great week, and go pats!

WEEK THREE VS. NEW ORLEANS SAINTS L 28-13

well kids,

i was too busy to remind you to think your happy patriots thoughts after our win over the jets last week, and apparently you forgot, because our patriots got walloped by the saints. i'm not that mad about it, but let's try to do better next week.

it was inevitable that macjones would have some growing pains during his first season in the nfl, and hopefully he got some of it out of his system. our rookie quarterback went 30 of 51 for 270 yards and one touchdown - along with three interceptions that pretty much sealed our doom. it wasn't fun, but it's not like experienced quarterbacks have never had three-interception games, so i'm not super worried about it. hang in there, macjones. we still love you.

this was one of those miserable, ugly games that seemed to slog on forever, with the only real spark of life coming in the fourth quarter when kendrick bourne pulled down a macjones pass and tiptoed along the sidelines long enough to extend the ball into the endzone and score our lone touchdown. along with his career high 96 receiving yards, it was memorable and exciting enough to earn this week's macdown, though that's probably overshadowed by this being his very first patriots touchdown. welcome to the team, kendrick - we like your style!

we play the buccaneers at home next week, and i have nothing to say about it. i might not have anything to say about it afterward, either, but think lots of extra happy patriots thoughts - and by patriots, i mean PATRIOTS, not people-who-used-to-be-patriots-but-are-now-dead-to-us. we're definitely going to need them.

have a great week, and go pats!

WEEK ONE VS. MIAMI DOLPHINS L 17-16

hey kids-

welcome to the weekly macdown- featuring our brand new rookie quarterback, macjones!

i wonder if anyone told macjones that when the patriots lose the first game of the season, it usually means they win the super bowl. it kind of seems like setting the bar pretty high for your rookie, but i like the ambition. in fact, i like everything about macjones, from the silly hair to the sideline rallying. our intrepid rookie quarterback had a decent showing in his first nfl game, going 29 of 39 for 281 yards and his very first touchdown as a patriot. may it be the first of many, mac! look at you, looking all quarterback-y!

our patriots are definitely still finding their feet, and while there were some bright shiny moments - i'm talking to you, mccourty and andrews! - there also were a few fumbles, literally.  it's never pretty when we're working out the kinks, but it was promising - and there's plenty of reasons to be excited. after all, it's a brand new season with a brand new quarterback and a brand new weekly award, and as is tradition, the very first weekly macdown is going to its namesake! congratulations, macjones - on playing your first nfl game, on getting your first patriots touchdown, and on receiving your very first macdown! fingers crossed we'll be congratulating you on your first nfl win next week!

speaking of next week, we're playing the jets in new york, and i'm glad somebody gets to go there, since my trip was cancelled thanks to the delta surge. start thinking your happy patriots thoughts a little early in case you're out of practice - or on the off chance the jets are actually good this season!

have a great week, and go pats!
